Join us and explore the extraordinary coastal and volcanic landscapes of iconic Rangitoto, Auckland’s largest volcanic cone and New Zealand’s youngest island, and experience a remarkable island unlike anywhere else in New Zealand.

Rising from the ocean around 600 years ago, Rangitoto is a place shaped by fire, forest and ocean. Explore rugged solidified lava fields and lava tubes, regenerating and mature native forest including the world’s largest pōhutukawa forest, with endemic birdlife and spectacular scenery along the way.

As you journey towards the summit, our accredited kaiārahi (guide) will share knowledge and stories of the geological and mythological forces that shaped the island, its unique plant and birdlife, fascinating history and rich Māori heritage and mythology. At the summit, magnificent panoramic views unfold across Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland and Tīkapa Moana, the Hauraki Gulf and islands. Together, these layers of nature, wildlife, history, cultural heritage and sweeping views create an unforgettable experience in a truly remarkable landscape.

Owned and operated by Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, Auckland’s original Māori inhabitant iwi (tribe) and tangata whenua (people of the land) of Rangitoto, this small group guided walk offers an authentic, fun and engaging exploration of one of New Zealand’s most celebrated natural landmarks and is one of Auckland’s most unique adventures.
