RISK DISCLOSURE

Te Haerenga o Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki, trading as Tapuwae Tours ("Tapuwae Tours", "we", "us", "our"), provides guided outdoor experiences on Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands. Tapuwae Tours takes all reasonably practicable steps to manage health and safety risks. However, participation in outdoor activities involves inherent risks that cannot be completely eliminated. This Risk Disclosure outlines the key risks you should consider before participating. By choosing to participate, you acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with your activity.

Key risks associated with our activities include:

Physical Injury

Despite safety measures, injuries may occur, ranging from bruises, strains, sprains and abrasions to serious injuries such as lacerations, fractures and dislocations.

Equipment Failure

Equipment is regularly inspected and maintained; however, unexpected defects, malfunction or failure may still occur.

Environmental and Natural Hazards

Our activities take place in outdoor, coastal and island environments and may involve adverse or rapidly changing weather, uneven, rocky or slippery terrain, coastal and water-related hazards, falling debris or rocks, volcanic or seismic hazards, and other natural events. Due to remote locations, emergency assistance or evacuation may be delayed.

Emotional and Psychological Effects

Outdoor activities can be physically and mentally demanding. Participants may experience emotional or psychological responses such as fear, anxiety, stress, panic, dizziness, nausea, fainting, or shock. These reactions may be more pronounced for individuals with an existing fear or mental health conditions.

Existing Injuries and Medical Conditions

A health condition, injury, disability, pregnancy or medication may increase the risk of participation. You must disclose anything that may affect your ability to participate safely or that we should be aware of in an emergency.

If you are pregnant, have epilepsy, osteoporosis, scoliosis, a recent concussion, or any other condition that may affect your ability to participate safely, you must inform us before participating. We will assess participation on a case-by-case basis and may require medical clearance where reasonably necessary for safety.

To help provide a safe experience and reduce risk, we:

·       Conduct routine inspections, servicing, and maintenance of all equipment.

·       Ensures activity guides receive appropriate training and certification.

·       Provides detailed safety briefings and instructions prior to participation.

·       Apply health requirements and / or restrictions where necessary.

Risk Reduction

To help provide a safe experience and reduce risk, you:

·       Are responsible for helping to maintain your own safety and the safety of others.

·       Must provide accurate information about any health condition, injury or medication that may affect your ability to participate safely. If you are unsure whether an activity is suitable for you, seek advice from a medical professional before taking part.

·       Will comply with all instructions, safety requirements, and directions provided by our staff at all times. Failure to follow procedures may increase the risk of injury to yourself or others.

·       Are responsible for assessing your own physical and emotional readiness to participate. If at any stage you feel uncomfortable, uncertain, or unable to continue, you should notify a staff member immediately.

By participating in a Tapuwae Tours activity, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted the risks outlined in this Risk Disclosure.
